01The weekly routine
- Vacuum with a soft brush, on low power — dust rubbed into the fibre wears down the fabric.
- Fluff and turn the cushions so they wear evenly.
- Smooth velvet and chenille in the direction of the pile, by hand or with a soft brush.
- Keep the sofa out of direct sunlight: any fabric fades over time.
02When something spills
- Immediately — blot with a clean white cloth, from the edge towards the centre. Do not rub: the stain spreads and the fibre lifts.
- Lukewarm water + a little mild soap — test first on a hidden area (the back of the cushion). Blot, do not soak.
- Rinse with a cloth dampened with water only, and let it dry naturally, without a hair dryer or radiator.
- Grease, wine, ink stains — call an upholstery cleaning company; harsh products do more damage than the stain.
03By material type
- Vacuum often with a soft brush — chenille traps dust between the threads.
- For stains: only dab with water and neutral soap, never rub.
- Smooth in the direction of the pile after cleaning.
- Seating marks are normal on velvet — they disappear with light brushing.
- Very easy to clean: most stains come out with water and neutral soap.
- Avoid direct hot steam on the material.
- Don't pull raised loops — cut them with scissors, as you would on a wool coat.
- Vacuum on low power, without a rotating brush.
- Stains: dab; the fabric absorbs quickly, so act immediately.
- Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth — the easiest-to-maintain material in the palette.
- No solvents, alcohol or products for natural leather.
- Keep away from nearby heat sources and sharp objects.
- Vacuum weekly; the textured relief hides dust, but also collects it.
- Stains: dab with water and neutral soap, rinse with clean water.
- Do not use bleach or chlorine products.
04What to avoid
- Bleach, chlorine, solvents, rubbing alcohol — they discolour and break down the fibre.
- Rubbing stains with abrasive sponges.
- Soaking through the material: moisture reaches the sponge and leaves halos.
- Drying with hot air or next to a radiator.
- New jeans, not yet washed, on light fabrics — may leave dye marks.
- Animal claws: a blanket on their favourite spot goes a long way.
05The mattress and mechanism
Open and close the bed without force, holding the handle, not the mattress. Air the mattress every few weeks (leave it open for an hour) and turn it head to foot from time to time so it settles evenly. Don't jump on the sofa and don't pull it by the armrests when moving it — lift it by the frame, with two people. If the mechanism squeaks or jams, write to us: it is covered by the warranty.
